MED-STAR DISPATCH
Med-Star Dispatch is staffed 24 hours a day. We take several different types of calls every day. We handle 911 calls, flights, patient transports, and decedent transports. We even help with the Transit and Race Rescue side of the business.
As dispatchers, we are responsible for taking phone calls, getting the correct information and relaying it accurately to the EMTs and Paramedics. It is important to let the crew know what they will be dealing with on each call.
Dispatchers are responsible for logging the calls we take and keeping accurate records of the results of those calls. There may be billing issues or questions about why we did something, so we need to document and keep track of the responses we make.

It is also the responsibility of the Dispatcher to keep track of who is in the responding crew, what vehicle they are in, and where they are at all times. It is not uncommon to have multiple crews out handling different calls at the same time. Dispatch needs to know where everyone is to aid management in making decisions about call responses. It is also for the safety of the crew that dispatch is aware of their location.
Dispatchers are also sometimes given special projects by management. These projects range from cleaning to helping with files and other office work.
